The GCC mechanism requiring salaries to be paid through approved banks and reported to the labour authority in a defined file format.
The Wage Protection System (WPS) is a regulatory mechanism used across several GCC countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, that requires employers to pay salaries through approved financial institutions and submit a standardised payroll file to the labour authority. It exists so regulators can verify that employees are paid in full and on time, and non-compliance can restrict an employer's ability to process labour transactions.
WPS makes payroll auditable to the regulator. Employers pay salaries through approved banks and submit a file listing employees, identifiers and amounts in a prescribed layout.
For a payroll or ERP implementation this is a concrete deliverable, not a checkbox: the system has to produce the exact file format the local authority accepts, keep employee identifiers in sync with labour records, and handle mid-month joiners, leavers and unpaid leave correctly.
