Traditional SEO optimises for a position in a list of links. Answer engines do something different: they read pages, synthesise a response, and cite a handful of sources. GEO is optimising to be one of those sources.

What actually helps

  • Answer first. A self-contained paragraph that answers the question without needing the rest of the page.
  • Explicit facts. Say the thing. Implication and brand voice do not survive extraction.
  • Accurate structured data. schema.org markup that genuinely describes the page type.
  • Verifiability. Dates, sources and specifics. Unsupported claims get dropped or, worse, attributed to you incorrectly.

None of this conflicts with conventional SEO. It is mostly the discipline of writing clearly and marking up honestly.
